WHAT DO YOU NURTURE?

Lesson 16

In Lesson 15, I spoke of a lunch with my friend Wayne and one of his mentors, Jim Rohn. At the end of that lesson, I asked the question; "What Nurtures You?"

In this lesson, Wayne writes me of his history with Jim Rohn and expands on their relationship. Wayne is very clear to feed energy into that which feeds him. His story has prompted me to now ask; "What Do You Nurture?"

Vicky,

I don’t remember if I told you how I met Jim Rohn. I went to one of his lectures 29 years ago. Loved it and got a tape recorder and went back for more. Liked it so much I followed him around the country and recording every thing he said. Still have the tapes and the notes.

A few years later I went to another of his lectures and said "Jim I followed your advice and have made a million dollars and wish to thank you for your help. I would like to repay you in some way, could I take you to dinner?"

He accepted after a few requests and slowly his memory came back as to who I was. We went to dinner and enjoyed an evening of conversation.

Months later he came back in to Phoenix where I was building my new home, a four story home on the side of a mountain in the center of town. The driveway was 1,000 feet long and made out of 65,000 hand laid brick. A steel gate and security cameras kept out all of the gawkers. People lined up to look at the house night and day. It was very modern with curved walls and shapes painted bright white with areas of black glass and covered by a copper roof. The copper was polished and then coated with a two part clear epoxy automotive finish.

Jim came into the living room where the ceiling was 30 feet high with a 10 foot modern chandelier. The walls were smooth plaster covered with 25 coats of dark chocolate lacquer and 3 coats of clear on top. The furnishing were perfect not only to the eye but worked for conversation.

I took Jim up to the third floor and asked him how he liked the room. How do you like the furniture? How do you like the view of the mountain? He said magnificent! I said it is your room! You can stay here any time. You helped me make a fortune and I want to repay you some way.

A few years later Jim meets me at the Balboa Yacht club in New Port Beach, CA. We are sitting out on the sunny deck enjoying lunch if front of a row of large yachts. After lunch I take Jim down to the pier and show him the 80 foot yacht I had just bought. He said "magnificent!" And then I showed him this room, asked if he liked the furniture. How he liked the view. How he liked the room. He said "perfect!" And I said "it is your room. Anytime you can join us as we sail around the world. I just want to thank you for all your help."

Jim tells that story all over the world of how he was repaid for his lectures.

Bye, Wayne

So...one response to this story might be "well sure, if a guy made me a million bucks, I'd be happy to give him a bed once in a while too!"

Another, more powerful response might be, "hummmm...what can I learn from this story? Am I serving what serves me? Am I nurturing what nutures me? Is it true that when I give, it is multiplied ten fold?

Have fun deciding what is true for you and what you want to create from this lesson. I will add this epilogue which may stir some additional fire in you;

Wayne did not stop with making just one million dollars, having a large home in Phoenix and an 80’ yacht. That was only the tip of the iceberg for Wayne. He lives in Hawaii now, is still creating fun, magic, aliveness, love and large quantities of money in his life...and of course, 29 years later, Jim Rohn still has a place in Wayne's home/heart.
