QUOTES

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're traveling seems all uphill,
When funds are low and debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When cares are pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must...but don't you quit.

Life is hard with it's twist and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns.

And many a person turns about,
When they might have won, had they stuck it out.

Don't give up, though the pace seems slow,
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man.
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup;
And he learned too late, when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out,
The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far.

So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit,
It's when things seem worst that you musn't quit.

Epilogue:

I posted this poem on April 20, 1997 as written anonymously and received this on November 20, 1997;

Hello all,
I found the poem entitled "Don't Quit" on the web sites that you're associated with and I hope that it has helped inspire you and others. I'm happy to tell you that the author of the poem may be "Unknown" to many, but was in fact my late grandmother Betty Rich (Benedetta Naimo-LaRiccia) of Wakefield, Massachusetts. It was written circa 1970 in the kitchen of her home. I know, because she sounded some of the lines off of me for my comment at that time. It warms me that her spirit lives on and has touched what is probably thousands of people over the years. It would be a great tribute to her memory to have her name credited as author. This is a small start on my part to convert all of the "Author Unknown's to Betty Rich.
Sincerely yours,
Robert Ellis

Thank you Robert and thank you Betty!
